Griffin and Sydney Theatre Company present Like a Fishbone

Griffin and Sydney Theatre Company present "Like a Fishbone"

Griffin Theatre Company and Sydney Theatre Company present Like a Fishbone By Anthony Weigh 'Anthony Weigh’s play is a gem; simple but deep' The Times

A single act of fury has left a small rural community in shock.

Months later, in an office many miles away, an architect prepares to present her plans for the memorial she has created in their honour. The unannounced arrival of a visitor interrupts proceedings; a grieving mother who wants to share a story of hope and faith so that her community can begin to live again.

Marta Dusseldorp and Anita Hegh play two extraordinary women waging a personal battle between religious faith and humanism, grief and commemoration – a battle that will change both of their lives irrevocably.

Enthralling and intensely moving, Like a Fishbone explores some of the most devastating aspects of life in the 21st century: how to make sense of senseless violence, how to remember those we have lost, and how to move on.

16 July – 7 August Wharf 1, Sydney Theatre Company

"During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act." George Orwell

Hypocrisy is the one word we all use to accuse others of transgressing a moral position often to further selfish ends.

Interestingly we always accuse hypocrites from our own moral perspective. Our cry of indignation often occurs because we realise that hypocrites are foregrounding their interests over the society we live in, and this is detrimental to us all. But we are all hypocrites and in the real world hypocrisy is often necessary to get things done. So how do we distinguish between a legitimate compromise and a sell-out, economic necessity and greed, idealism and fanaticism or hypocrisy and integrity? Hypocrisy is the enactment of double standards or deceiving and using others to further selfish ends – money, sex, power, control, reputation etc
