Author Biography

Sarah Hall was born in Cumbria in 1974 and lived there until she left home at the age of 18 to study for a degree in English and Art History at Aberystwyth University.Sarah started writing seriously, with a mind to getting published, at 20, (though she was writing as a hobby from a young age). At about 23, she began sending away to poetry magazines, then to publishing houses in earnest. Having had some of her poems published, she made the switch from poetry to fiction about 2-3 years ago. The M.Litt. in Creative Writing at St Andrews University was an attempt to formalise her relationship with writing, to encourage her into thinking of it as a professional option. Having finished the course, she stayed on for a year to teach the undergraduate creative writing programme.Haweswater is her debut novel.
