Swaths of the war-torn African country lack basic infrastructure, and, after many decades of colonial occupation, its people are officially among the poorest in the world. Recently, this veritable periodic table of resources has become extremely valuable because these metals are essential for the global “energy transition”—the plan for wealthy nations to wean themselves off fossil fuels by shifting to sustainable forms of energy, such as solar and wind. The race to electrify the world’s economy has begun, and China has a considerable head start. What is it that turbocharges some tales, and how is it possible to harness that potency? John Yorke's groundbreaking bestseller, Into the Woods, revolutionised our understanding of story structure. This new book delves deeper into how to put that structure to work in the world. Trip to the Moon takes us on a journey not just through drama and fiction but through politics, religion and non-western narrative. Through these terrains, Yorke seeks out the role of story in all our lives, examining how to utilise its lessons to create life-changing tales - and, in a world aflame with conspiracy theories, to guard ourselves against their darker purpose too. Revealing the artful symmetry and underlying principles that connect Summer beach reads to Classical Chinese poetry, superhero flicks to Russian arthouse, and classical rhetoric to state propaganda, Yorke makes dazzling connections that show how stories have the power to transfigure the chaos of our existence into a new equilibrium, and make the world anew.
Details

ISBN13: 9780241631089
Format: Hardback
Number of Pages: 496
Edition:
Publication Date: 28 Apr 2026
Publisher: Penguin Books Ltd
Publication City, Country: London, United Kingdom
Dimensions (cm): 24.1(H)x16.3(L)x4.2(W)734
Weight (gm): 734

Author Biography
John Yorke is a producer, consultant and lecturer on all forms of narrative - from speech writing and advertising to drama - and the author of Into the Woods. THE QUESTION What to make of a life? It is a question we all wrestle with more than once. How do we find our way in the world? How do we make it past the cliffs, significant events that can radically change a life? How do we keep the inner fire burning bright, long and late? Inspired by relentless curiosity, Jim Collins devoted a decade to studying these questions and to minutely analysing those moments when life flips from clarity to confusion and casts us into a befuddling fog. THE STUDY His exploration compares various lives side by side, paired together at cliffs, and analyses the different choices made and divergent paths taken. Two rock musicians confronting a future without the group that had brought them success. Two suffragists achieving their epic goal and then left with the puzzle of what to do next. Two public figures tainted by scandal having to make decisions about how to rebuild their lives. Two figure skaters seeking new purpose when their Olympic careers come to an end. What emerges from Collins's extensive studies - of writers, actors, scientists, leaders, and many others - is a framework for understanding how individual lives can be built, sustained, and constantly renewed. THE FINDINGS By examining the long arc of these remarkable lives, Collins tackles life's questions. What does it take to- Discover a deeply fulfilling role in life - one that you are naturally 'encoded' for - and then find second one, if the first one ends? Overcome a major cliff - a fracture point that forces choices about what's next and calls for you to reenvision the years to come? Make your personal economics work so that you can focus on One Big Thing that feeds your inner fire? Navigate the fog when you feel uncertain or even outright lost, and build confidence step by step Minimise the impact of bad luck and ensure the maximum return on good luck? Build personal momentum decade upon decade, so that your most creative and energetic years are spread across an entire lifetime? Achieve the imperative to 'Know Thyself' and apply self-knowledge to each phase of life? THE TRANSFORMATION For the first time, Collins movingly chronicles his own story to reveal how undertaking this project transformed him, changing his thinking and reshaping his emotions in fundamental ways. 'After this study,' writes Collins, 'I will never look at life the same ever again.' Surprising, story-driven, deeply researched, and uplifting, What to Make of a Life is a book like no other and convincingly shows how a richly fulfilled life is within reach for us all.
Details

ISBN13: 9781529979756
Format: Hardback
Number of Pages: 416
Edition:
Publication Date: 08 Apr 2026
Publisher: Cornerstone
Publication City, Country: United Kingdom
Dimensions (cm): 24.4(H)x16.4(L)x3.8(W)628
Weight (gm): 628

Author Biography
Jim Collins has published multiple international bestsellers that have sold in total more than 11 million copies worldwide, including the perennial favorite "Good to Great". Thomas lives a slow, deliberate life with his mother in Longferry, working his grandpa's trade as a shanker. He rises early to take his horse and cart to the grey, gloomy beach and scrape for shrimp, spending the afternoon selling his wares, trying to wash away the salt and scum, pining for Joan Wyeth down the street, and rehearsing songs on his guitar. At heart, he is a folk musician, but it remains a private dream. Avant-garde American poet and art collector who made her home in Paris, godmother of modernism, queer icon, friend to Picasso and Hemingway, self-declared genius - a writer who has baffled readers and critics for a century. And why does she matter? The narrator of Deborah Levy's latest, dazzling fiction has gone to Paris to find out. There she meets Eva with the blinding gaze, an artist in a long-distance marriage, and Fanny, a sexually adventurous financier; together they cook, walk, read and argue late into the nights. As Paris sweeps her along in its ceaseless flow, she thinks - about what we have to lose to become modern, navigating anxiety, living with uncertainty, angry fathers, making a new life in another country, art and language - how all these things looked to Gertrude Stein in the early days of the twentieth century, and how they look to her and her friends in the early twenty-first. This is a book about how we put ourselves together- an exhilarating, witty, cosmopolitan meditation on the pleasures and challenges of friendship, desire and living with other people. But it is also crashes through genre to create an inspired portrait of Stein herself- a writer who experimented fearlessly with a new way of living and who wrestled herself free from the nineteenth century to invent a brand-new way of looking at the world.
Details

ISBN13: 9780241457801
Format: Hardback
Number of Pages: 240
Edition:
Publication Date: 21 Apr 2026
Publisher: Penguin Books Ltd
Publication City, Country: London, United Kingdom
Dimensions (cm): 24.5(H)x14.5(L)x2.4(W)342
Weight (gm): 342

Author Biography
Deborah Levy is the author of several novels including August Blue, Hot Milk and Swimming Home, alongside a formally innovative, critically acclaimed 'living autobiography' trilogy- Things I Don't Want to Know, The Cost of Living and Real Estate. Discover how to better understand yourself and create a fuller, richer life with this groundbreaking classic and internationally bestselling, life-changing guide by Dr. Elaine Aron, the research and clinical psychologist who first identified the Highly Sensitive trait, as well as an HSP herself. Revised and Updated with New Research and a New Author's Note Do you have a keen imagination and vivid dreams? Is time alone each day as essential to you as food and water? Are you noted for your empathy? Your conscientiousness? Do noise and confusion quickly overwhelm you? If your answers are yes, you may be a highly sensitive person (HSP). Twenty to thirty percent of people have this amazing, innate trait. Maybe you are one of them. A similar percentage is found in over 100 species, because high sensitivity is a survival strategy always used by a minority, involving observing carefully before acting. It is also a way of life for HSPs. In this groundbreaking classic, Dr. Elaine Aron, a research and clinical psychologist as well as an HSP herself, helps you grasp the reality of your wonderful trait, understand your past in the light of it, and make the most of it in your future. Drawing on her many years of study and face-to-face time spent with thousands of HSPs, she explains the changes you will need to make in order to lead a fuller, richer life. Along with a new Author's Note, the latest scientific research, and a fresh discussion of anti-depressants, this edition of The Highly Sensitive Person is more essential than ever for creating the sense of self-worth and empowerment every HSP deserves and our planet needs. "Elaine Aron has not only validated and scientifically corroborated high sensitivity as a trait-she has given a level of empowerment and understanding to a large group of the planet's population." -Alanis Morissette, artist, activist, teacher
Details

ISBN13: 9780806545523
Format: Paperback / softback
Number of Pages: 304
Edition:
Publication Date: 21 Apr 2026
Publisher: Citadel Press Inc.,U.S.
Publication City, Country: United States
Dimensions (cm): 20.9(H)x13.9(L)
Weight (gm):

Author Biography
ELAINE N. Wells was born in Bromley, Kent, in 1866. After an education repeatedly interrupted by his family's financial problems, he eventually found work as a teacher at a succession of schools, where he began to write his first stories. Wells became a prolific writer with a diverse output, of which the famous works are his science fiction novels. These are some of the earliest and most influential examples of the genre, and include classics such as The Time Machine and The War of the Worlds. Most of his books very well-received, and had a huge influence on many younger writers, including George Orwell and Isaac Asimov. Wells also wrote many popular non-fiction books, and used his writing to support the wide range of political and social causes in which he had an interest, although these became increasingly eccentric towards the end of his life. Twice-married, Wells had many affairs, including a ten-year liaison with Rebecca West that produced a son. A beautiful deluxe gift edition of Shakespeare's immortal poems with foiled covers, marbled endpapers, sprayed edges, beautiful paper and finished with a silk ribbon. Love sonnets are for romantics, starry-eyed lovers and ardent hearts. And Shakespeare's sonnets are the best ever written. But this is why they are also for cynics, for star-crossed lovers and for those who know the anguish of unrequited love. Some appear to be written to a young man, some to a woman. And although the poems are full of mystery - why did Shakespeare write them, and to whom? - each one speaks to us from across the centuries of love, hate and the intensity of being alive. His father was a glove maker and wool merchant and his mother, Mary Arden, was the daughter of a well-to-do local land owner. Shakespeare was probably educated in Stratford's grammar school. In 1582 he married Anne Hathaway, and the couple had a daughter the following year and twins in 1585. Shakespeare's theatrical life seems to have commenced around 1590. We do know that he was part of the Lord Chamberlain's Company, which was renamed the King's Company in 1603 when James I succeeded to the throne. The Company acquired interests in two theatres in the Southwark area of London, near the banks of the Thames - the Globe and the Blackfriars. Shakespeare's poetry was published before his plays, with two poems appearing in 1593 and 1594, dedicated to his patron Henry Wriothesley, Earl of Southampton. Most of Shakespeare's sonnets were probably written at this time as well. Records of Shakespeare's plays begin to appear in 1594, and he produced roughly two a year until around 1611. His earliest plays include Henry VI and Titus Andronicus. A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Merchant of Venice and Richard II all date from the mid to late 1590s. Some of his most famous tragedies were written in the early 1600s; these include Hamlet, Othello, King Lear, Macbeth and Antony & Cleopatra. His late plays, often known as the Romances, date from 1608 onwards and include The Tempest. Shakespeare died on 23 April 1616 and was buried in Holy Trinity Church in Stratford. The first collected edition of his works was published in 1623 and is known as 'the First Folio'.
Reviews
The great master who knew everything...an unspeakable source of delight—

Every age has reinvented the Bard in its own image. Jones, Madonna, and Annie Leibovitz, the last of whom photographed Haring in an iconic session when he had made his own body a canvas, painting himself to blend into an elaborate 3D environment. With more than 350 illustrations, seven essays, stunning reproductions of his art in three dimensions, and archival photographs of Haring at work, this book gives readers the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world Haring created as never before.
Details

ISBN13: 9781580937184
Format: Hardback
Number of Pages: 288
Edition:
Publication Date: 14 Apr 2026
Publisher: Monacelli Press
Publication City, Country: New York, United States
Dimensions (cm): 29.2(H)x22.9(L)1900
Weight (gm): 1900

Author Biography
Keith Haring (1958-90) was an American artist born in Reading, PA. Schuman, who now calls Milano his home, combines portraiture with dazzling cityscapes and revealing reportage.

In 2005, Scott Schuman transformed fashion photography forever when he founded the blog The Sartorialist. The idea was simple: to open a dialogue between fashion and daily life, by shooting locals in public spaces. But in the lineage of Bill Cunningham and August Sander, that unpretentious, radical emphasis on "real people"-off the runway, out of the studio-elevated people-watching to an art and street style to high fashion, long before Instagram. In Milano, Schuman found a muse dressed for the task.

Milano chronicles nearly twenty years of his devotion to the inimitable Milanese and their bustling, stylish city, first as a visitor, then as a local. Featuring a foreword by the late Giorgio Armani and an extensive interview unpacking Schuman's unique approach to capturing fashion in the wild, the photos are so cinematically composed, it's a wonder they were shot on the move. Schuman seems to pause Milano, not only those shoppers, skaters, and smokers who might have the time but those without it: Miuccia Prada, Emiliano Salci, Luciano Barbera, the Sozzani sisters, all caught here in the same streets and caffés. What emerges is a street-view history of modern Milanese fashion, by an American with the open mind to see the elegance overlooked by locals born to it and missed in stiffer fashion shoots-the beauty in the authentic, unpredictable styles combined only by those under no pressure to conform. Young and old, they pose while Milano flies by on bikes, Vespas, and trams, amid a dazzle of marble, frescos, sculptures, spires, columns, ornate palazzi and brutalist facades, local markets, florists, vertical gardens, iconic hangouts like Bar Basso and Marchesi 1824, espressos, handbags, high heels, and suits in every color imaginable. From the canals of Naviglio Grande to the cobblestones of Via Brera to the glass ceiling of "the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II" and Milano Centrale, the city's blend of architectural styles is seen as a radiant reflection of its people.

"Milano does not lend itself to superficial, fleeting acquaintances," Armani notes in his foreword; part travelogue, part style bible, here is an exclusive chance to tune into the city's rhythms, energy, and soul as intimately as Schuman has, to discover what makes it one-of-a-kind. For admirers of fashion, photography, and la dolce vita, this is the authentic street-style of the fashion capital of the world that won't be found on Instagram, captured by the pioneer who made it cool and meaningful. In Schuman's words, these aren't just clothes, they're clothes that tell you "who the people are".

Details

ISBN13: 9783754403211
Format: Hardback
Number of Pages: 248
Edition:
Publication Date: 11 Apr 2026
Publisher: Taschen GmbH
Publication City, Country: Cologne, Germany
Dimensions (cm): 32.7(H)x24(L)x2.7(W)1565
Weight (gm): 1565

Author Biography
Based in New York City, Scott Schuman had worked in fashion marketing and branding when, in the early 2000s, he began casually photographing stylish people he encountered on the street and posting the images to a blog he called The Sartorialist. Perhaps not, but J. C. Volkamer (1644-1720) did-commissioning an extravagant and breathtaking series of large-sized copperplates representing citrons, lemons, and bitter oranges in surreal scenes of majesty and wonder.

Ordering plants by post mostly from Italy, Germany, North Africa, and even the Cape of Good Hope, the Nuremberg merchant Volkamer was a devotee of the fragrant and exotic citrus at a time when such fruits were still largely unknown north of the Alps. His garden came to contain a wide variety of specimens, and he became so obsessed with the fruits that he commissioned a team of copperplate engravers to create 256 plates of 170 varieties of citrus fruits, many depicted life size, published in a two-volume work. The first volume appeared in 1708, with the impressively lengthy title The Nuremberg Hesperides, or: A detailed description of the noble fruits of the citron, lemon and bitter orange; how these may be correctly planted, cared for and propagated in that and neighboring regions.

In both volumes, Volkamer draws on years of hands-on experience to present a far-reaching account of citrus fruits and how to tend them-from a meticulous walk-through of how to construct temporary orangeries, glasshouses, and hothouses for growing pineapples to commentary on each fruit variety, including its size, shape, color, scent, tree or shrub, leaves, and country of origin.

In each plate, Volkamer pays tribute to the verdant landscapes of Northern Italy, his native Nuremberg, and other sites that captured his imagination. From Genovese sea views to the Schönbrunn Palace, each locale is depicted in the same exceptional detail as the fruit that overhangs it. We witness branches heavy with grapefruits arching across a sun-bathed yard in Bologna and marvel at a huge pineapple plant sprouting from a South American town. The result is at once a fantastical line-up of botanical beauty and a highly poetic tour through the lush gardens and places where these fruits grew.

Few colored sets of Volkamer's work are still in existence today. As a champion for the right to free expression and against arbitrary state power, his actions reach far beyond the art world. His work is infused with a deep social and political commitment: when he brings 1,001 Chinese citizens from all classes and regions to Documenta 12, when he strews over 100 million hand-made porcelain sunflower seeds across the Turbine Hall at the Tate Modern, when he creates a frieze of school bags commemorating the many children who fell victim to the tragedy of the Sichuan earthquake, or when he visits the refugee camps of the world to engage with often-ignored individual fates in his film Human Flow. In 2011, Ai was detained for 81 days by the Chinese police for his relentless questioning of authorities, and his passport was taken away. Now exploring 40 years of work, the book ranges from the artist's exile in '80s New York, through sculptures based in Chinese traditions and craftsmanship after his return to China, to his latest works conceived in Europe: toy-brick mosaics, films, and installations championing human rights. This book is itself a historical document: initially produced as the first in-depth monograph in close collaboration with the artist during a time when he still couldn't travel abroad, now the same team has reconvened to continue the story. Countless images from Ai's archives show the studio day-to-day, the artwork production, the political actions. They are accompanied by artist's statements made especially for this book, and by three far-ranging essays: independent curator Roger M. Buergel and art historian Alfred Weidinger, who both worked with the artist on major exhibitions, discuss the work and its development in thematic detail, while long-time friend, the entrepreneur and collector Uli Sigg, delivers a personal portrait of the artist from two points in time.

Details

ISBN13: 9783754404270
Format: Hardback
Number of Pages: 736
Edition: Multilingual edition
Publication Date: 04 Jun 2026
Publisher: Taschen GmbH
Publication City, Country: Cologne, Germany
Dimensions (cm): 33.4(H)x25(L)x5.9(W)4294
Weight (gm): 4294

Author Biography
Born in Beijing in 1957, Ai Weiwei is renowned for making strong aesthetic statements that resonate across today’s geopolitical world.
