Brandon Mise, proprietor of Blue Barnhouse letterpress studio, started his affair with the tactile medium at the San Francisco Center for the Book before moving his company to Asheville, North Carolina. For as much as the studio has grown since then, Mise and his cohorts have maintained and facilitated a community of likeminded letterpress aficionados, all of whom are at the forefront of contemporary letterpress. The artists and printers featured in "Adventures in Letterpress", including Press New York, Incline Press, WNY Bookarts Center, Chapel Press and Hammerpress, shun standard mass-produced fare, favoring the beauty and physicality of doing things the old fashioned way. Framed by interviews of the people keeping the tradition alive, the books photographs feature the delicate details and exciting and edgy designs that make clear why there is a renewed interest in letterpress posters, cards and packaging.
